In realtà Dubai è tutt’altro!
Dubai: the city of the future, a metropolis of glitz, the capital of unbridled luxury, an oasis in the desert… is that really what it’s like?
When you think of Dubai, the first things that come to mind are skyscrapers, ultra-expensive hotels, supercars, and a destination that perhaps isn’t very “family-friendly.” In reality, Dubai is much more straightforward and organized than one might imagine—especially if you approach it the right way.
It is often described as a city unsuitable for those traveling with small children: too big, too chaotic, too “adult-oriented.”
Dubai is anything but that!
It is an extremely organized and safe city, designed to make getting around easy—even with a stroller and children in tow. Wide sidewalks, taxis everywhere, family-friendly accommodations, and attractions designed for visitors of all ages make the trip much easier than you might expect.
During our trip to Dubai with our little girl (Gioia was 20 months old), we found hotels with spacious rooms, restaurants always ready to meet kids needs and a space management that allows for stress-free movement, even in the most central areas.
But let’s get down to business… Here is our actual itinerary: where we stayed, which areas we visited, how we got around, what we saw, and why Dubai turned out to be a much more family-friendly destination than is often portrayed.

Flying with Air Arabia
Flying with small children is always a question mark: will they sleep? Will they eat? Will they get bored?
To reach Dubai, we chose to fly with Air Arabia, the Emirates’ low-cost airline.
The direct flight from Orio al Serio to Sharjah takes about 6 hours.
We departed from Bergamo on a night flight: the best choice, in my opinion, if you have small children like Gioia.
For the return flight to Italy, however, we departed from Sharjah, about an hour from Dubai, after spending some quality time in the airport lounge to eat and rest.
The staff on board were incredibly kind and helpful; they even brought us an extra yogurt because Gioia wanted it, and several bottles of water; the seats have much more legroom than on any other low-cost airline; the hot meals are truly delicious, and… 30 kg of luggage each!
For a mother is equivalent to “I’ll pack everything, absolutely everything.”
My world and Gioia’s, zipped up!
Nicola, like a good partner and father, even left us some space in his suitcase.

How did we spend our time? I have to say that Gioia is almost always great on the plane; she was mesmerized by the sight of the window, played, cuddled, ate, and then fell asleep.
And we were able to enjoy some quality time as a couple, watching a good movie together.
It’s not always like this, we know. After all, kids are kids; you can’t predict them.
But when it happens, you enjoy it all!
We landed in Sharjah, after breakfast at the airport, we hopped in a taxi, and in no time, we reached our destination.

Dove dormire a Dubai (soprattutto con bambini)
InterContinental Dubai Marina
Dubai Marina è moderna, ordinata e molto vivibile:
marciapiedi ampi
passeggiata pianeggiante lungo l’acqua
ristoranti e supermercati ovunque
taxi sempre disponibili
Where to stay in Dubai (especially with children)
InterContinental Dubai Marina
We spent the first two nights in Dubai Marina, one of the areas I highly recommend if you’re traveling with children.
Dubai Marina is modern, tidy, and very livable:
wide sidewalks
flat promenade along the water
restaurants and supermarkets everywhere
taxis always available

It’s the perfect area to explore the city, stress-free. In the evening, you can easily go out with a stroller, take a walk after dinner, or stop at one of the many bars overlooking the Marina.
As a starting point for exploring Dubai, it’s a truly perfect choice.
The InterContinental Dubai Marina is where design meets Dubai’s most iconic view.
Sleeping here is like entering a world suspended between elegance and the skyline: bright rooms (ours was a true apartment with a bedroom, bathroom, large balcony with a Marina View, and an open-plan living room and kitchen; perfect if you want to cook/eat in the hotel without having to search for restaurants) and attention to details.
From the view of the Marina skyscrapers to the infinity pool that seems to touch the horizon, every corner exudes a sense of contemporary and relaxed luxury.

Noi abbiamo adorato:
We loved:
The perfect location, just steps from Marina Walk
Pool with a view
Infinite breakfast with a wide variety of sweet and savory options, for everyone
Convenience of having restaurants and services right in the hotel
Extremely helpful staff, who make you feel at home even on the other side of the world
Delicious Asian dinner, with intense flavors and exquisite presentation
The surprise birthday cake, a gesture that truly touched me
A modern retreat in one of Dubai’s liveliest areas: perfect for couples, families, and those seeking a strategic base for exploring without sacrificing comfort and style.
From here, you can easily get to the main areas of the city by metro, bus, and tram.

Sofitel Dubai The Palm
Sofitel Dubai The Palm
After Dubai Marina, we moved to Palm Jumeirah, where we spent a night at the Sofitel Dubai The Palm.
Here, the setting changes completely: less city, more resort atmosphere.
It’s the ideal solution if you want to include a more relaxed experience in your trip, especially with small children.
Large rooms, well-maintained spaces, pools, and beach access make everything very easy. Even for just one night, it’s a wonderful experience to include in your itinerary.
Straighter than the InterContinental, the Sofitel Dubai The Palm is located on the East Crescent of Palm Jumeirah, offering a prime waterfront location with panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf, the coast, or the palm branches.
The 5-star luxury resort, known for its Polynesian style, rooms with views, and luxurious amenities, is located in a quiet area, characterized by private beaches and manicured landscapes, away from the central bustle of the Palm tree.

Cerchi i tropici a Dubai?
piscina principale enorme e scenografica
Looking for the tropics in Dubai? Then you’ve come to the right place!
If there’s a place that combines sea, relaxation, and family, it’s the Sofitel Dubai The Palm.
As soon as you enter, you feel like you’ve landed on a tropical island: the scent of flowers, wooden details, palm trees everywhere.
A gigantic resort, but with a warm and welcoming energy.
Ample spaces, green areas to run and play in, safe pools, numerous restaurants serving a variety of cuisines. Joy was in her element here… and so were we!
An intercontinental breakfast with an endless selection of foods from a wide variety of ethnicities (from French omelets to Asian soups, Moroccan hummus, and so on!)
A huge and scenic main pool
A private beach with calm, clear water
Many restaurants to choose from (we opted for the buffet with international dishes, exquisite flavors, and impeccable service)

If you dream of Dubai but want to experience it 100% as a vacation destination, you’ll find it all here: from comfort to beauty to a tropical atmosphere that captivates both adults and children.
The only “flaw”—if you can call it that—is the lack of public transportation nearby, so getting to other areas is difficult, especially by taxi or on foot to the Atlantis, and from there, taking the elevated train to the Marina, where you can catch the metro, bus, and tram.

Oceana Residences – Adriatic building
Oceana Residences – Adriatic building
For the last part of the trip, we chose an even more convenient option for families: Oceana Residences – Adriatic Building, still on Palm Jumeirah but in a much more vibrant area, located toward the end of the trunk.
For the apartment selection, we relied on Baron Luxe Stays, experts in luxury real estate in the city.

appartamento grande, spazioso, luminoso
cucina attrezzata di tutto
spazi separati
Staying in a residence with a child really makes a difference, especially in this one:
Large, spacious, and bright apartment
Fully equipped kitchen
Separate spaces
Large balcony overlooking Palm Bay
Infinity pool with sea views, lazy river for fun, gym, playground, and private beach
24-hour security and surveillance
It’s a choice I would definitely make again for a longer stay, especially if you’re traveling with small children and want to avoid the “hotel rhythm” and have more flexible hours.
We loved the freedom of a high-end residence combined with the amenities of a resort, while Gioia was able to move around safely and peacefully.

Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo
percorso lineare
tunnel trasparente molto coinvolgente
What to do in Dubai with small children
Dubai is much easier than you think to experience with children!
The attractions are organized, accessible, and often designed specifically for families.
Here are the experiences that, in our opinion, really work with small children.
Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo
What if we told you that in Dubai you can walk under the ocean… right in the middle of a mall?
The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is one of the most amazing family experiences: a huge tank that enchants children, a transparent tunnel that makes you feel like you’re in the sea, and an interactive trail where penguins, jellyfish, and countless marine creatures transform everything into an adventure.
It’s the perfect activity if you’re traveling with small children and want to give them a magical and thrilling experience.
Trust us… their eyes, when they see the sharks pass by, will never be forgotten!
Why it’s perfect:
Linear trail
Highly engaging transparent tunnel
Manageable visit times (about 1–2 hours)
No complicated travel because you’re already in the mall
It’s ideal for combining with a day in Downtown, perhaps alternating it with a lunch break or a more relaxed moment.
Tip
Combine the aquarium with a stroll through the Dubai Mall: panoramic elevators, games, and plenty of activities for children, as well as family-friendly restaurants.

Dubai Fountain Show
dura pochi minuti
si svolge all’aperto
non richiede prenotazione
puoi arrivare anche all’ultimo momento
Dubai Fountain Show
The Dubai Fountain is one of the easiest free shows to include in an itinerary with children.
It is located at the foot of the Burj Khalifa, in front of the Dubai Mall.
After five long months of renovations, the Dubai Mall fountains returned to dance in all their splendor on October 1st, with new sound and light systems and a new design to make the shows even more magical and spectacular.
Because, in our opinion, it’s a perfect attraction for small children:
It lasts a few minutes
It takes place outdoors
No reservations required
You can arrive even at the last minute
If you’re in Dubai, you can admire this wonder every day, every 30 minutes, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
Practical tip:
Get there early if you want a frontal view, or watch it from the Dubai Mall terrace for less crowds.
With small children, it’s best not to hang around the central crowd.

Dubai Miracle Garden
Dubai Miracle Garden
Did you know that there’s a garden in Dubai that seems to have come straight out of a fairytale… and it’s perfect for even the smallest children?
The Miracle Garden is one of those places that truly amazes you: colors everywhere, giant sculptures, stroller-friendly paths, and plenty of shaded areas that make a visit very enjoyable, even for families.
Gioia was mesmerized by every detail here: butterflies, flower tunnels, magical houses… a place that seems designed specifically to make children fall in love (and make us take tons of photos).
If you’re planning a trip to Dubai with kids, this is a stop you can’t miss!
And the best part? It’s perfect for combining with other family-friendly activities nearby.
Why we recommend it:
Open spaces
Easy stroller-friendly paths
Short visit
Quiet atmosphere compared to other attractions
Best to visit in the early morning or late afternoon, especially in the warmer months.

Cena in riva al mare al Fish Beach Taverna
all’interno del complesso del The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi.
Dinner by the sea at the Fish Beach Taverna
If you’re looking for a unique place to eat, I absolutely recommend Fish Beach Taverna,
inside The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi.
This restaurant with its Mediterranean vibes will amaze you from the moment you enter.
A seaside dinner that feels like something out of a Greek island; Fish Beach Taverna is one of the most romantic places in Dubai.
Soft lighting, white and blue tables, the scent of the sea.
Here you can enjoy the freshest fish, cooked in a thousand ways and with a Mediterranean touch that evokes a holiday: appetizers to share, light grills, fresh and authentic flavors.
It’s the perfect place for a relaxing evening, with conversation, good food, barefoot in the sand, and an atmosphere you wouldn’t expect in the heart of the city.

Surrounding Areas to Visit: Abu Dhabi in One Day
During our trip, we dedicated a day to Abu Dhabi, which can be reached from Dubai in about an hour and a half.
Abu Dhabi is different from Dubai, more institutional and less chaotic.
If your trip lasts at least a week, I recommend including it.
We booked an excursion on GetYourGuide (you can purchase it HERE and enter the code ENRICASCIARRETTA5 for a discount on the ticket price!), which allowed us to discover four wonders of Abu Dhabi in just one day!

A shuttle picked us up directly from the hotel, and in an hour and a half we reached our first stop: the Louvre Abu Dhabi, where we could take iconic photos of its splendid dome composed of 85 pieces of steel.
Then we continued to the 74th floor of the Etihad Towers, for a 360° view of the Persian Gulf.
Third stop: Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace where gold, Swarovski crystals, and the immense 37-meter dome will leave you speechless.
We ended in style at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: among the largest and most spectacular in the world, with its 82 domes, 1,096 columns, the world’s largest Persian carpet, and 10-ton Swarovski chandeliers.
Each of the 96 columns in the main prayer hall is covered with 20,000 Carrara marble tiles and embellished with mother-of-pearl. An absolute masterpiece!
(Arms and legs covered, and veils for women: you can rent them at the Mall!)

taxi ovunque e a costi contenuti
strade larghe e ben tenute
marciapiedi curati
strutture sempre accessibili
Noi ci siamo mossi quasi sempre in taxi, senza mai avere difficoltà.
Getting around Dubai with small children
One of the things that makes Dubai family-friendly is its ease of travel:
taxis everywhere and at affordable prices
wide, well-maintained roads
well-maintained sidewalks
always accessible facilities
We almost always traveled by taxi, without ever encountering any difficulties.
When to go to Dubai
Best time: November to March
Temperatures are ideal for visiting the city, even with children.
Why choose it as your next trip?
Dubai is a destination that works very well with small children, but you should:
choose the right areas
alternate hotels and residences, or at least choose accommodations that allow you the freedom of schedules that children require
don’t fill up your days, respecting and trying to accommodate the little ones’ schedules as much as possible
It’s an organized, safe city, and much simpler than you might think.
A trip that can be enjoyed calmly, without sacrifices or stress.
