Ci eravamo lasciati nella bellissima Otranto; oggi continuiamo il nostro piccolo tour pugliese, spostandoci di circa 40 km a nord, tra Melendugno e Vernole. Immerso nel verde delle campagne salentine, a pochi minuti dal mare e dall’oasi WWF Le Cesine, sorge il CDSHotels Relais Masseria Le Cesine.
Il Relais Masseria, grazie alle due zone distinte da cui è costituito, è il perfetto mix tra relax e divertimento, adatto sia alle coppie che alle famiglie: la masseria dedicata al riposo e il villaggio destinato allo svago. Ad unirle, un lungo viale tra gli ulivi pugliesi.
Today we continue our little Apulian tour, driving about 40 km further north, between Melendugno and Vernole.
Surrounded by the green countryside of Salento, just a few minutes from the sea and the WWF oasis Le Cesine, the CDSHotels Relais Masseria Le Cesine is located.
The Relais Masseria, thanks to the two distinct areas into which it is divided, is the perfect mix of relaxation and fun, suitable for both couples and families: the masseria dedicated to rest and the village intended for recreation. A long avenue among the Apulian olive trees joined them.
La Masseria
La nostra Classic Room si trovava all’interno della masseria, a soli due passi dalla parte “funny”.
Chi ha seguito le mie stories su ig, avrà notato un simpaticissimo particolare. Date le vaste dimensioni della struttura, per raggiungere il proprio alloggio, il personale accompagna gli ospiti a bordo di golf car con annesso rimorchio per trasportare le valigie in comodità.
Una manciata di stanze ampie e luminose, una piscina privata, la zona spa e la sala colazione (aperta anche a cena).
Nei colori, negli arredi e nelle forme della nostra stanza, si poteva riscontrare la forte autenticità delle tipiche masserie pugliesi, ma al tempo stesso un comfort ai massimi livelli.
Svegliarsi con il canto degli uccellini al mattino, circondati dal verde e baciati dal sole caldo della Puglia.
Gustare la colazione abbondante e super varia nella sala ristorante della masseria.
Rilassarsi in piscina tra un tuffo e qualche scatto fotografico.
Servirsi da bere comodamente a bordo vasca, in completa autonomia, grazie al bar self-service.
The Masseria
Our Classic Room was located inside the Masseria, just two steps from the “funny” part.
Anyone who has followed my stories on ig will have noticed a very nice detail. Because of the hugeness of the building, to reach your own accommodation, the staff accompanies you on board a golf car.
Some large and bright rooms, a private swimming pool, the spa area and the breakfast room (also open for dinner).
In the colors, furnishings and shapes of our room, we could find the strong authenticity of the typical Apulian masserie, but at the same time comfort at the highest levels.
Waking up with the birds singing in the morning, surrounded by greenery and kissed by the warm sun of Puglia.

Cibo e animazione
Ecco come impegnavamo le nostre mattinate al CDSHotels Relais Masseria Le Cesine fino all’ora di pranzo, quando raggiungevamo il ristorante “L’Oasi dei Sapori” nel villaggio per rifocillarci. Ogni giorno, veniva proposta un’ampia selezione di piatti tipici della cucina salentina e piatti nazionali e internazionali, preparati con cura dallo chef.
I pomeriggi li trascorrevamo quasi sempre nella zona piscina del villaggio, dove lo staff dell’animazione ci teneva compagnia con vari giochi e attività (non vi racconterò di quando sono riusciti a coinvolgermi e sono caduta di faccia per terra in mezzo all’acqua sporca di terra con i miei nuovissimi shorts bianchi 😅 ).
Una delle cose che adoro alla follia nei villaggi è che si mangia a qualunque ora e difficilmente si riesce a resistere (soprattutto io!). Nel tardo pomeriggio, al bar del villaggio, c’era l’ora della merenda con pizze appena sfornate e gelato. Ovviamente ero sempre la prima ad arrivare e l’ultima ad andarsene. 😂
Un’oretta di pausa per fare la doccia e prepararci e via, a cena! (Ve l’avevo detto che si mangia sempre!)
Durante il nostro soggiorno, abbiamo avuto anche la possibilità di cenare in Masseria, nel raffinato ristorante country chic “Il Pugliese” dove abbiamo assaporato le migliori specialità della tradizione salentina.
Ma le giornate non finivano così.
La seconda serata era allietata dagli spettacoli dell’animazione. Dalle 21:00 alle 22:00, intrattenimento per i più piccoli e poi, per gli adulti. (Non ditelo a nessuno, ma io amavo follemente la parte dedicata ai bimbi. C’era anche il carretto dei popcorn!)
Food and entertainment
This is how we spent our mornings at CDSHotels Relais Masseria Le Cesine until lunchtime, when we reached “L’Oasi dei Sapori” restaurant in the village to have lunch. Every day, a wide selection of typical dishes of Salento cuisine and national and international ones were offered, carefully prepared by the chef.
We almost always spent the afternoons in the pool area of the village, where the animation staff kept us company with a lot of games and activities (I won’t tell you about when they managed to get me involved and I fell on my face to the ground in the dirty water with my brand new white shorts 😅 ).
One of the things I love the most in the villages is that you can eat at any time (managing hard to resist, especially me!).
In the late afternoon, at the village bar, there was snack time with freshly baked pizzas and ice cream. Of course I was always the first to arrive and the last to leave. 😂
An hour’s break to take a shower and get ready and go for dinner! (I told you we were always eating!)
During our stay, we also had the opportunity to dine in the Masseria, in the country chic restaurant “Il Pugliese” where we tasted the best specialties of the Salento tradition.
But the days didn’t end like that.
The second evening was enlivened by the animation staff shows. From 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., entertainment for kids and then, for adults. (Don’t tell anyone, but I loved the kids part madly. There was also the popcorn cart!)
Servizio bici e Centro Benessere
“Ma quanti km camminavate avanti e indietro dalla masseria al villaggio?”
In realtà zero! La cosa divertente è che utilizzavamo il servizio bici gratuito dell’hotel per fare tutti i nostri spostamenti, girovagare per il relais e raggiungere con più facilità il ristorante e l’anfiteatro. Volendo, si potevano utilizzare anche fuori dal CDSHotels Relais Masseria Le Cesine.
La mia si chiamava Camilla! É stata con me dal primo giorno all’ultimo, ormai mi ci ero affezionata.
Come vi accennavo prima, all’interno della zona Masseria, era presente il piccolo e suggestivo centro benessere completo di Jacuzzi, bagno turco, docce emozionali, tisaneria e cabine massaggi pensate per il relax e il benessere psicofisico degli ospiti. Potevamo lasciarci sfuggire un’ora di pura quiete? Assolutamente no!
Il CDSHotels Relais Masseria Le Cesine offre ai propri clienti la possibilità di usufruire del servizio navetta gratuito per raggiungere la spaggia convenzionata, attrezzata con ombrelloni e lettini.
Bike service and Wellness Center
“But how many miles did you walk back and forth from the masseria to the village?”
Actually zero! The funny thing is that we used the hotel’s free bike service to travel around the relais, reach the restaurant and the amphitheater more easily. If we desired, we could also used them outside the CDSHotels Relais Masseria Le Cesine.
I called mine Camilla! It was with me from the first day to the last one, I was fond of it.
As I mentioned before, inside the Masseria area, there was a small and charming wellness center complete with Jacuzzi, Turkish bath, emotional showers, herbal teas and massage cabins designed for relaxation and the psychophysical well-being of the guests. Could we have missed an hour of pure stillness? Absolutely not!
The CDSHotels Relais Masseria Le Cesine offers its guests the opportunity to use the free shuttle service to reach the affiliated beach, equipped with beach umbrellas and sunbeds.
Roca Vecchia e Grotta della Poesia
A circa un quarto d’ora di macchina dall’hotel, si trova la bellissima località costiera di Roca Vecchia, sede di importanti scavi archeologici. Di grande rilievo, la torre di avvistamento cinquecentesca, le rovine del castello a picco sul mare e la famosa Grotta della Poesia (in realtà, le grotte sono due ma la più famosa è certamente quella più grande).
Se vi doveste trovare in zona, vi consiglio vivamente di fermarmi ad ammirare questo posto stupendo. Il costo del biglietto di ingresso vale la visita. Quello che vi sconsiglio con tutto il cuore, invece, è di tuffarvi dalle scogliere della Grotta della Poesia. Da qualche anno, infatti, il posto è diventato molto turistico e non mancano le numerose persone che ogni giorno si tuffano a loro rischio e pericolo. Inutile dirvi che è pericolosissimo, non solo per l’altezza ma soprattutto perchè la roccia carsica di cui è costituita la Grotta potrebbe sbriciolarsi sotto i vostri piedi o sopra le vostre teste da un momento all’altro.
Il nostro viaggio nel Salento per quest’anno termina qui. Ma ormai la Puglia è nel nostro cuore, ci torneremo sicuramente nel 2021!
Roca Vecchia and Grotta della Poesia
About a quarter of an hour by car from the hotel is the beautiful coastal town of Roca Vecchia, site of important archaeological excavations. Of great importance, the sixteenth-century watchtower, the ruins of the castle overlooking the sea and the famous Grotta della Poesia (actually, there are two caves but the most famous is certainly the largest one).
If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend you stop and admire this wonderful place. The cost of the entrance ticket is worth the visit. What I do not recommend with all my heart, however, is to dive from the cliffs of the Grotta della Poesia.
In fact, in the last few years the place has become very touristy and there are a lot of people who dive every day at their own risk. Needless to tell you, it is very dangerous, not only for the height but above all because the karst rock of which the cave is made up could crumble under your feet or over your heads at any moment.
Our trip to Salento for this year ends here.
Puglia is in our heart, we will definitely be back in 2021!
